This is a photograph of a wood carving (that I sadly no longer have), photographed in 2005.
I also lost the original images at some point, so this Photoshop render is now the only copy I have.

I blended a metallic texture to the upper half with a clipping mask and altered the colour to impart an aging copper effect.

Recycling images: Using layer blend modes, inversion, clipping masks, colour and gradient maps.
Blending in a fractal image to create something new.
Fractals can be an interesting source of texture to add to composites, either as clipped and blended assets, or as blended background textures to add unusual detail to otherwise flat areas.
